Club Scrap Crewel & Unusual Blog Hop

Welcome to the February Club Scrap Blog Hop featuring this month's kit, Crewel & Unusual. If you arrived here from Inkstained Roni's blog then you are in the right place. If not, be sure to check out Karen's post over at Club Scrap for a complete list of participating blogs.

Click HERE to see the inspiration for my collage.
I love embellishments, so I created a collaged wall hanging featuring some of my favorites collected over the years.

I began with a template created digitally in iScrapbook to ensure all my paper pieces would fit the collage perfectly and be visually pleasing.

When I was young, my mom used to do crewel embroidery, and this kit has brought back some wonderful memories of learning this craft from her.

I gathered a selection of embroidery floss in matching kit colors handed down to me from my Grandma Wright.
I used the stamped Greetings UM hearts as a guide and created real embroidery pieces to add to my collage.

I printed out the Letter Art quote from the Crewel & Unusual Digital Kit onto the Ivory paper. I pierced holes into the paper and then added real embroidery to the panel. Check out Jac's Virtual Pizza Box video for details on how to use these elements in your paper projects.

I created a faux canvas, using two 9x11" sheets of Pizza Box cardboard layered and topped with a piece of heavy duty mat board, rescued from the recycling bin as it was the backing off a mixed media art paper pad.

I wrapped the edges with Washi Tape prior to adhering the patchwork of papers.

I adhered all of my embellishments to the paper pieces with Club Scrap Bookbinding Glue prior to attaching to the final project.

Here are some details from my project.

Quilt Block Technique

I was inspired by Kay's blog post over at Club Scrap to create a double page layout using Club Scrap's Crewel & Unusual Deluxe Kit and Greeting UM stamps.

Club Scrap Technique Challenge - Masking Tape

Roni Johnson is hosting the February Technique challenge over at Club Scrap featuring the use of masking tape.

I created cards combining the masking tape and Color Burst powders.

For these cards, allow the masked areas to dry, stamp over the masking tape with Crewel & Unusual Greetings UM stamps and then remove the tape.

For these cards, the masked areas were allowed to dry, the masking tape was removed and the Misted Stamp technique was used with Club Scrap's Seaside UM stamps.

*note- For the middle card the entire panel was covered with Color Burst pigments. Torn strips of masking tape used to create the "seaweed", more Ultramarine blue Color Burst added, allowed to dry and then the tape was removed. Highlight the seaweed with black pen.

The Club Scrap Artist team was asked to create artwork with the Weathered Florals UM stamps so I decided to play along and also feature the large flower in my cards.

In this final card, I misted the stamp to form the sentiment directly into the Color Burst. It didn't stand out enough, so I outlined the word in white gel pen.

Birthday Card Carriers Bookcase

Turn a cardboard box into a bookcase for mini albums, or in this case, Card Carriers created for the recent Club Scrap Celebrate Blog Hop.

Here is how it came together.

Cut a large piece of sturdy cardboard.

Trim angled pieces for either end. Attach ends with Club Scrap Bookbinding Glue. Cover corrugated exposed edges with dotted washi tape.

Cut pieces of Celebrate Gray and Gray Print papers to cover exposed areas on back, bottom and sides.

I didn't have one long piece of Celebrate Gray paper so I pieced them together with tape and then attached to the bottom and back sides.

Here is the finished piece holding the Card Carriers.
