More to the story:
My husband Greg and I were engaged over Memorial Day weekend back in 2002. On that Saturday, for the very first time, an organization called Project Gurnet & Bug Light, provided visitors to the Gurnet with an opportunity to tour the lighthouse. In all the years I have been visiting our family cottage here, we were never able to go inside the lighthouse until this day. It was so exciting. Once at the top, Greg along with my two older children, Jason and Alicia, were looking at the amazing view and Greg got down on one knee and presented me with an engagement ring!! Rink, our tour guide nearly had a heart attack he told us. Both he and organization head Dolly Bicknell were so excited for all of us.
Fast forward a few years later, on June 21, 2003, Greg and I got married in a small ceremony surrounded by our close family at the lighthouse. As a special favor, Dolly sent Rink to open up the lighthouse for us. We were able to go into the lighthouse and take wedding photos. Another truly memorable day!
In 2005 our daughter Shannon was born and finally at age 12 she was able to go inside for a tour. Also all these many years later, we were delighted to find out Dolly and Rink are still part of the Memorial Day Tour.
Such amazing memories!!
